About Treble
Treble is a longstanding group with a membership of 9-13 women at any given time. We sing in the traditional collegiate style with a fresh twist and perform mostly pop, rock, and classic hits. A few highlights about Treble:
We’re the longest running a cappella group in New York! We were founded in 1996 though none of the original members are still with us.
As a group, we’ve had some cool opportunities. We’ve performed at The U.S. Open and Terminal 5 and were featured in New Line Cinema's feature film How to Be Single. We’ve gigged at some of the most iconic venues in New York City including Joe’s Pub, Lincoln Center, The Guggenheim Museum, The Duplex, and Canal Room. We recorded an album at the premier indie recording house Rubber Tracks and have opened for artists like Patti Rothberg, Jonathan Richman, oh and Mary J Blige.
Most importantly, truly, we’re a happy group of singers and friends who love to sing together. We take Treble seriously, but also regularly socialize with each other when our busy schedules allow. Not required, but a huge bonus to being part of a group!
Member criteria
In order for Treble to run smoothly and sing well, we do have member expectations, as any healthy organization would. A few things to keep in mind when deciding whether to audition for Treble:
Members must be able to attend rehearsal on Tuesday nights. Treble rehearses every Tuesday night in Manhattan (currently in midtown….occasionally at World Trade Center because one of our super cool members works for Spotify). All members must be able to commit to Tuesday evening rehearsals, 7:00-9:00pm. Members occasionally miss due to work commitments, business trips, and vacations--ya know, adult life things!--but if you foresee a regular conflict on Tuesday nights, it would be difficult to learn your music and become a fully contributing member of the group.
Members must have experience singing in a collegiate level a cappella group. We learn fairly complicated music and like to learn new songs with frequency. We’ve found that this past experience is critical to learning music quickly.
Members must be based in the NYC metro area, and should enter into Treble with the desire and ability to stay in the group for 2 years at a minimum. Obviously lives change, but if you have plans or ideas to leave NYC in the next year, Treble probably isn’t the right fit for you. It takes a good six months to learn all the music!

Who arranges treble’s music?
We have two members – who also happen to be our music directors – who arrange all of our music. But we’re always delighted if someone else wants to throw her hat in the ring and give it a try!
How often does treble learn new music?
We are constantly bringing in new songs and at any given moment are probably in the process of learning/perfecting 2-3 newer songs in addition to polishing our full repertoire.
How often does treble perform?
We have one “friends and family” gig every year where we encourage all our loved ones to come out and hear a full set. Beyond that, we are hired for numerous private gigs throughout the year (no more than once a month) with holiday time tending to be the busiest as people are always looking for carolers!
